Rose has been a close friend since back in the school days of St Mary's. In 2002 she married the love of her life Damien (now 38 years) and in 2007 they had their first son Ethan followed in 2010 by Edward. They moved to Port Stephens for a lifestyle change in 2014 which they have been loving. In July of this year after suffering sinus pain and impaired vision, Damien was diagnosed with a carcinoma cancer in the paranasal sinus which was Grade 4, meaning it was aggressive and needed urgent treatment starting with an operation. During the 16 hour surgery they removed Damien's left eye and some of his palate and teeth, his face was then filled out with tissue from his leg. Damien required a tracheostomy after surgery and feeding via a tube, He spent 3 nights in ICU and made a good recovery in hospital and was back home within two weeks and able to manage a soft diet which he is continuing with. A few weeks later Damien then commenced radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He is due to finish radiotherapy in early November and chemotherapy mid November however the impact of the cancer and treatment will be ongoing as Damien recovers physically and adjusts to the changes from treatment. We have set up this fundraising page to show our support for Damien and his family. Damien and Rose have been amazing with how they have faced and dealt with this challenging time but it has required and continues to require unpaid leave from work. The funds of this page will be used to help meet current financial commitments while Damien is recovering and the prosthetic eye which he will likely be able to have next year.A movie night is also being planned as another way you can help show your support for Damien, Rose and their family and this will be held on Wednesday 2nd December 6pm (movie at 6.30pm) at Glendale Event cinemas. The movie will be 'Spectre' (James Bond). Rose and Damien are also planning on attending if Damien feels well enough and we would love to see everyone there. Tickets will be $20.00 which includes the movie ticket, a booking fee, some nibblies and a chance to win the lucky door prize. All profits will be given directly to Damien and Rose. Tickets can be found at stickytickets https://www.stickytickets.com.au/31641Please share this page and the movie page with family and friends who you think may also wish to support Damien and his family. Thanks in advance for any donations or if you would simply like to leave a message of support. We will keep you updated on Damien's progress this year. From: Karli (representing the school friendship group from St Mary's Highschool).
