If you're reading this, chances are you've admired the photography taken by Verona native and longtime Caldwell educator, Jeff Stiefbold. For over a decade, a tireless dedication (some may call it obsession) to youth and high school athletic programs has allowed him to capture unforgettable sports moments for our children. Because of his photography, quarterbacks can relive their first touchdown, Little Leaguers can revel in a game-winning home run, and tiny basketball hopefuls can see their first three-pointer. But it goes beyond the field and the court. Whether the subject is birds, landscapes, butterflies, or outrageous antics at the zoo (the animals at Turtle Back know him by name) his nature photography illuminates our Facebook feeds with seasonal views of the communities we live in, showing us the world as he sees it through his lens. Unfortunately, that lens is now gone. On October 24, he lost the one piece of equipment that brings his talents to life. The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Lens was mistakenly left at a photo site, and was never returned. Every effort has been made to locate the missing lens, but with a value of $1500-$2000, a dishonest person could easily profit from his misfortune. Anyone who knows Jeff would agree his tremendous passion for the craft is outweighed only by his generosity in sharing his talents with our local schools, sports teams, families, businesses and organizations. He's humbly accepted only nominal fees for some of the amazing prints and posters he's custom designed for families and teams. More importantly, he's donated his time and energy and expertise on more occasions than can be noted here. It's very simple: without this high performance telephoto zoom lens, Jeff can no longer capture the images we're all used to seeing. This is truly a great loss from a financial perspective, and from missing something he loves more than anything (except Volleyball!) The cost of a new lens will be over $1,500. Jeff has done so much for SO many of us...even a small donation would help offset the cost of replacing what is truly priceless to him. If the missing lens should ever turn up, it can be resold with proceeds donated to local sports teams booster clubs. The reward for your small act of kindness will be repaid with beautiful images for years to come.
