The Canadian Record is a highly-respected independent community weekly newspaper in the Texas Panhandle, in publication since 1893--the last 75 years of those under the Ezzell family. Record editor/publisher Laurie Ezzell Brown suspended publication in March 2024, a decision driven by several factors: a declining local economy; a failed sale; a baseless lawsuit, which has since been dismissed; rising printing and mailing costs; an aging staff; and exhaustion. Our continuing hope is to find a successor who will care as much about sustaining good journalism and this beautiful rural community as we do. The funds would be used to staff that leadership position and to restore this treasured newspaper to regular publication.
