If courage were a person, it would be Karita if determination was a person. It would be Karita. If hope were a person, it would be Karita; if resilience were a person, it would be Karita. Meet my Baby, Karita, a fearless little warrior battling Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD). It is a rare orthopedic condition affecting 1 in 200,000 babies born, which has robbed her of the joy of walking. Half of the upper thigh bone (femur) in the most affected leg didn't form properly. She also has a condition where the hip socket is not developed well and is not oriented correctly. This means her thigh bone does not meet the socket or the hip joint. One of the bones below her knee didn't develop correctly, resulting in a bent leg and a displaced knee joint. My daughter's determination knows no limits. She is a tiny but mighty hero—falling over 20 times to move her leg and reach for her favorite toy. Karita's pregnancy was different. I walked into an ultrasound place and had a routine scan done, and that's when I found at 17 weeks that my third child was differently abled. Being human, I went into denial. After two weeks, I returned and confirmed that my child had Proximal Femoral Focal Deficiency (PFFD). I am a medic in Kenya, and every time I go to the hospital, I am immensely satisfied to offer medical care to those who come to see me. I have job satisfaction. However, when I come home, I feel so helpless because I know the medical interventions Karita needs. However, I can't afford it. A series of surgeries and procedures must commence immediately, before she turns three, for her treatment to be effective. The clock is ticking as Karita's third birthday approaches. It is a race against time to urgently meet this critical deadline to raise over 50,000 USD. Your support is our lifeline! Every contribution brings us one step closer to ensuring that Baby Karita receives the timely and life-changing medical care she bravely battles for. Help me do this for my Baby Karita.
