My name is John Hogan. I am currently in my final year of seminary in Rochester, NY. I have had some amazing educational opportunities for which I am very grateful. However, all of my work will be for nothing unless I graduate. I am here at the cusp of completing my Mater of Divinity degree with 1 more semester of work and not enough funds to complete my education. I am the youngest of five children, coming from a very poor, rural family. I was the first to attend college in my family, although I have two brothers that have gone to college since I first began. My final semester will be quite intense. I need to take four classes (12 classroom hours per week) in addition to a field internship with a church and another field internship in a hospital setting. Altogether, that requires 72 hours a week committed to classroom hours and internship, and a minimum of another 20 hours dedicated to study. This leaves little to no room for any extra time for work or pleasure. However, this is a lifelong dream. I first wanted to be a pastor when I was 11 years old. Throughout my life, I have had to overcome many obstacles including having to leave school to help my mother through her last 2 years on earth, a nervous breakdown, and a divorce. There have been many interruptions in my education, which has lasted over 20 years since my first day in college. The money I have asked for here is not even the full amount I need, but it is the minimum I need to be able to survive to complete my education and graduate in May 2016. Between student loans and a few scholarships I have been able to secure, I am left with a deficit of $4,500. This money would need to be secured no later than January 6, 2016. If the funds are not there, I would need to leave school and put my studies on hold once again. I am very close to my goal, and I believe any further interruption might keep me from my life goal. However, I believe that my goal CAN be reached with donations small and large. To be able to walk across that stage in May and recieve my Master degree will be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, and will allow me to be successful in life and work.Thank you for your support - whatever the amount, even if all you can do is pray - it is all a great help.
