UPDATE: Our family wants to thank everyone for their continued love, support, and prayers. We stand tall and face this battle with strength because of God's grace and the people who continue to cover us in love. We have several updates and wanted to catch everyone up on what has been going on and the steps forward. Anna Lauren had a positive appointment with Dr. Schreeder last week! When he examined her he said the mass is much smaller and he is thrilled with the progress! She got a high five and he told her she made his day. We are so thankful for the wisdom and heart of love Dr. Schreeder has. The chemo appears to be working and Anna Lauren will continue on with the chemo regimen prescribed. She just completed week 8 of the first round of chemo. After she completes 12 weeks she will begin a second chemo that will be much harder on the body. This is the time in which Anna Lauren will be working less and mostly outside of the hospital setting to remain safe. At the end of this month, we will be traveling to MD Anderson to meet with a surgeon and other physicians. We hope that Anna Lauren will possibly qualify for a clinical trial. The surgeon she has been scheduled to see is the lead investigator in 3 triple-negative trials right now! We are excited and beyond thankful for this opportunity. It is because of the love and generous support of others that this is possible for our family. We do not have the words to thank y’all enough for this wonderful gift. We hold fast to the fact that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 Much love, Tara and Anna Lauren ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On June 20th, Anna Lauren was given the devastating diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer. She has Triple Negative Invasive Ductal Carcinoma with metastasis to one lymph node. This is a very aggressive type of cancer. She had a port placed on June 22 and started chemotherapy and immunotherapy on June 27. She will undergo chemo for 6 months, then surgery, followed by radiation for 6 weeks. Immunotherapy will continue for a total of a year. She is 37 years old. She and her wife, Tara, share two beautiful children, Ryker (4) and Rowan (2). She has been a nurse practitioner at Huntsville Hospital for 9 years, always helping others in need. She has continued working up to this point, but due to the extensive treatment working has already become a struggle. The hospital environment is also not the ideal place for an immunocompromised person to work. Anna Lauren and Tara wish to keep their children’s lives as normal as possible given the forthcoming changes. Both children are currently enrolled in daycare and they very much look forward to playing with their classmates every day. On behalf of Anna Lauren and her family we have created a LFEBridge account to help pay for everyday expenses, including medical bills and childcare. As fortunate as she is to have health insurance there are so many additional healthcare costs. Anything donated is considered a blessing. Even if you are not able to contribute, please say a prayer for our friend. Sincerely, The Trauma Nurse Practitioners
