To our GDI Family: One of our beloved employees who works as a day porter, Fannie Stewart, has recently been diagnosed with Breast Cancer and will be undergoing major surgery later this month.  October, as you know is Breast Cancer awareness month and we are hoping you can help Fannie fight this battle and donate to Fannie's Battle Fund.  Your gift will genuinely make a difference and greatly impact Fannie's life.  Fannie's story is below."No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.”   - Charles DickensThank you - My name is Fannie Stewart.  I was born in 1947 to Gertrude and Louis Coleman in Shaw, Mississippi.  I was their second child. I have two brothers and two sisters.  I attended Mc Evans High School. In 1964, I married Edward Stewart.  In October 1970, we moved to Detroit, Michigan.  We have been married for 51 years.  We have 8 children, 23 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.  Recently, our grandson, Kevale, was deployed to Afghanistan for 23 months.  I miss him already.  Currently, my son, Danny, who is Autistic and suffers from many health problems, is in the hospital with a weak heart.  It makes my own heart heavy to see him there.  I love my services at New Starlight Church, my work with Contract Direct (48 hours per week), gardening and cooking for my big family.  Kevale even wants me to find a way to send him my Sweet Potato Pie!In 1990, my mother, Gertrude, passed away from breast cancer.  In August 2015, during self-examination, I discovered something that concerned me.  It is the same breast that my mother had her tumor in.  I went to the doctor, and then the oncologist and by September 21st found myself undergoing a biopsy.  On September 28th, the doctor called to tell me I had a malignant tumor.  Because there is a 40% chance that the cancer could spread to my lymph nodes, I elected to have a mastectomy.  It all came about so quickly and unexpectedly. On October 27th, at Grace Hospital, I will have my surgery. My faith is strong.  I have my beautiful family along with all of my friends and coworkers supporting me.  Their prayers and encouraging words are healing tools that I will lean on in the recovery period.Thank you!The money we raise will be used for Fannie's medical bills and anything else she needs.  Thank you all!-Your GDI Family
