Hello, my name is Jacqueline Lewis. My friend suggested that I try this as I’m in a very bad financial situation. I normally never ask for help and was raised that it’s shameful to ask. I’m far outside of my comfort zone. I’ve hit rock bottom and do not know what to do anymore. For the past nine years, I’ve been struggling to financially support my 86-year-old mom and myself. We both contracted covid from a co-worker, after going back to the office at the end of December 2024. I requested to continue working from home since we are both high risk but it was denied. Laid off in October while on unpaid leave, recovering, and taking care of her from surgery, after almost 18 years of service. I’ve been job hunting with no success yet. Overqualified, ignored, or application rejected. I was able to get work at Whole Foods as a shopper in December. Ended up badly injured with my arthritis and took four months to recover. I tried to donate plasma but after 3 hours was turned down because of long covid. We completely exhausted all my resources paying basic expenses without an income (rent on 2 bedroom is the most). Charged up credit cards to the max and used up my small 401(k). We were always on a tightrope trying to pay for everything. She couldn’t contribute with her tiny social security. Thankfully she will be able to live with my brother in his 1 bedroom for now but that’s our whole family. I’m down to $100 in cash. Our lease is up on August 7th, planning to sleep in my car once evicted. Unable to pay rent for the first time in my life. July amount is $2,874.36 landlord posted the demand for rent, but no eviction served yet. No funds for car payments, phone, or other bills anymore. I’m just looking to start over. First by finding a job and a room or couch to rent. If there is anything you can spare even $1 or positive thoughts it would truly mean the world to me. Any funds will go to the car, cell phone, and living space first.
