Hello everyone, I am Leen and I am 25 years old. I have bad eyesight and I would like to do a surgery for my both eyes. They have the same strength which is -7,25 at this moment. They discovered I needed glasses when I was 9 years old. I had a complex having to wear them so I would always break my glasses ‘by accident’. When I was 14, the earliest age possible, I started wearing contact lenses. This was amazing to me because I didn’t like glasses on me and I looked like the others now. (Which was important to me at the time) Since I started wearing contacts I’ve been having several eye inflammations. Contacts make your eyes more sensitive to infections. I’m having one right now and this is the moment I decide to do something about this issue. Over the years my sight got worse and I got used to wearing lenses. Because of my bad sight, it’s hard for me to wear glasses. Because the distance between my eyes and glasses creates a decline in my sight with them on. My depth perception while wearing them isn’t so great either. I live in Belgium and we have a good healthcare system except for the eyes. Why? I have no idea. The health insurances we have don’t cover these kind of surgeries. I’m making this fundraiser because as we all know and feel, life got more expensive & as a young person I am paying off things monthly which makes saving up for the surgery tricky. I work in the airport of Brussels as a loadmaster since 1 year and I wouldn’t be able to do my job with the declined sight I have while wearing glasses. I’m now applying to work as an air hostess which makes it even more fundamental to have good eyesight. I absolutely love to work in aviation and it’s a place where I feel at home and can find myself happy for the next few years at least. The money I ask for will go to doctor’s appointments and eventually my eye surgery I thank you all in advance for donations (no matter the amount) and I would love to keep you posted about my eye adventure and aviation future.
