My name is Brandi S. I am a wife, a mother, and I mentor young women who are going through an unplanned pregnancy at a young age. I take my mentoring very seriously as I too was once where they are….young, single, and pregnant all before graduating high school. When we say “Yes” to our calling we don’t see the big picture right away. Sometimes we question if what we are doing is enough and, sometimes we think we are doing more than we thought we were ever asked to do.Recently, I found myself in the latter part of that statement. I found myself heartbroken over a young mom and her 2 month old baby who were in a very tough position. Without going through a lot of detail, my family and I ended up caring for this baby, Miss E, for 5 weeks. Immediately I noticed that her eyes were different from most 2 month olds. After several attempts of trying to involve her biological family to seek medical attention for her and, after 2 failed attempts to involve our states child welfare department; I soon realized that I had to take matters in my own hands. This led me to having to hire an attorney to obtain emergency sole custody of her so that I could get her the medical care she needed. After an overnight stay at the hospital and numerous tests; my overwhelming intuition was correct, Baby E has a problem with her vision. She is visually impaired from a congenital condition called Septo Optic Dysplasia. She will never see like you or me. Though this news of Baby E’s eyes was shocking, she is a beautiful baby who deserves the best life possible. The fact that her mom is so young and that Baby E has such a LIFE altering condition, I “see” now that God placed me in her path to be HER EYES. She could not help her current situation. She could not "see" for herself what was happening. She is innocent and blameless. She is HIS child. By HIS blood she will be healed in Jesus name! Sometimes, He allows a mess to create a beautiful masterpiece and, I know in the depths of my heart that He is working a miracle through Baby E.I want you to understand that her mother did nothing wrong, this condition is common in babies of young mothers. I also want you to understand that I love her mom and pray for her daily. It was never my intention to take her baby away. She, (baby’s mom), had verbally told me she wanted me to care for baby E until she could place her for adoption. Since then, mom has changed her mind and feels she can parent Baby E. However, as of last week, the state now has custody of Baby E and she is in foster care due to their concern for Baby E. The state did allow her to go to a foster family whom I know, love, and trust. A wonderful family who loves her already and who are willing to go to bat for this baby and adopt her FOR LIFE; if that is God's plan! My prayer is that Baby E's mom can and will make a definate choice between adoption and parenting (I say "can" because the state is involved and the decision may be out of her hands). If adoption is mom's choice, I pray this precious family could be her forever home. There are 2 reasons for this Go Fund Me Page: 1) To cover the cost of our attorney fees already incurred - total cost of $2,400. 2) To create a cushion for Baby E in the immediate future. This may include: additional attorney fees (if adoption happens), medical care not covered, therapies, helping E's mom, and time off work for caring for Baby E. I hope you can find it in your heart to help us be the Eyes for Baby E and continue to watch over her as God unfolds His plan for her life. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 (NIV)God Bless and Thank you for being the Eyes for Baby E!
