Hey friends, This past August 2nd, due to a freak accident in Nov 2024, (see below for back story), I had to have my left eye surgically removed because an infection rendered it blind. From Nov, I had been suffering from headaches and debilitating migraines (think brain freeze headaches x10 for hours at a time) up until the surgery.  I organized this GFM campaign to help me get by as I didn’t have any savings to cover living expenses while I’m recuperating for 6 weeks (around Sept 16). I take full responsibility for not planning better. But since Nov, I could only drive after sunset/at night and only when I was headache/migraine free. (Some weeks I could only put in 20 hours of driving. There were days where I would have tears in my eyes as I fought through the pain). If you are in a position to help me out financially, I’d really appreciate it! If you can’t, I understand. Positive vibes, prayers and the like are greatly appreciated as well.  Thank you, Glenn  **** keep reading if you want the back story ***  Last Nov, I was driving four Uber passengers to their destination. The guy sitting in the front seat was a big guy, built like a football player. He basically commandeered the armrest between us. I went to take a sip from my 7-11 Big Gulp (that had an extra long straw). Not wanting to bother the guy, I maneuvered the cup so as not to bump him. Instead of the straw going into my mouth, I gouged my left eye. Luckily the riders only had another 2 minutes to go. After I dropped them off, I drove home with a watery eye (not much pain). The next afternoon, I went to urgent care where they recommended an eye specialist. I went the following day only to find out that his practice didn’t take my insurance. That visit (and the next day’s follow up would be $450 each / $900 total). Plus, I had to go to a compounding pharmacy to have two bottles of special antibiotic eye drops filled ($100 ea). $1100 total! I didn’t have that kind of cash! So, I never went to the next day’s appt and didn’t get the eye drops. Three weeks passed and the pain was becoming unbearable. I went to my General Practitioner. His office researched which eye specialist took my insurance, and made an appt. I went. They prescribed the same two scripts for the eye drops (which I filled). By the end of January, the infection had consumed my eye and left it blind (completely dark). The eye was still trying to process what my right eye was seeing. (Talk about shooting pain out of nowhere!) I was given drops and gabapentin to help with the pain.  I had originally scheduled the eye removal surgery for May, then June.  I wasn’t able to go through with it until Aug 2. That’s where I am today. The surgery was a success. I have some phantom pain (nothing like before). I’ll be fitted with a lens that will look like my right eye. The globe that was inserted that replaced my eye is attached to this globe. It will follow the movement of my right eye. I’m told it won’t be noticed by most people. We’ll see.
