Hyman entered the hospital June 18 for kidney related problems. It turned deadly serious with fluids accumulating around his heart. He was on a ventilator for nearly a week. Thankfully the doctors were able to stabilize him; since that time he is making slow progress. As of July 7th he is a patient at Select Specialty Hospital (room 527), located on the fifth floor of the UPMC York Hospital. He has been on dialysis from the beginning and now 3 days per week (M, W, F); currently (July 13) he has started Physical Therapy (very basic). He needs assistance to get out of bed and needs to sit in a chair, though now able to use his hands more freely. He still needs help with feeding. His periods of confusion shows signs of his old self in fun ways. Through this website we hope to allow viewers to assist Lori and Hyman with expenses that go well beyond insurance. Obviously, Hyman's working days are over so that income will be missed. To see updates on Hyman's health and spirits observed during visits, please check the CaringBridge website for Hyman. We'd like to coordinate visits so please check the schedule and add any date you plan on visiting.
