Everybody loves Marty. Since 1978, Marty Lewis has had such a great influence on Reno’s performing arts landscape, June 8, 2024 was officially declared Marty Lewis Day by Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve in honor of his amazing impact on thousands of people in Northern Nevada. Now it’s time for our community to show our appreciation for Marty beyond our praises and applause. Recently, Marty’s health took a negative turn due to a worsening case of COPD and asthma. He was hospitalized for 12 days, in and out of ICU, before he was transferred to a skilled care facility last week. He remains at the care center, while medication, diet, and physical therapy are helping him breathe better, gain weight, and gather the strength to walk unassisted from extreme weakness. He is working hard on his recovery, as he has done in all his endeavors - both on many stages throughout the world and in every class he has taught, be it dance or academic. Our goal is for Marty to dance and teach again! We are hoping to raise $30,000.00 to help Marty cover the mounting medical expenses not covered by insurance, including longer-term skilled nursing care, continued physical therapy, and the potential purchase or rental of needed medical equipment when he is discharged to go home. Due to his health issues, Marty has not been able to teach dance or substitute in many local schools. He has been relying on Social Security as his sole source of income and has now gone through most of his emergency funds. Understandably, bills outside the growing medical ones are falling behind. There is no such thing as a small donation. Any amount you can spare to help Marty focus on regaining his health will be appreciated. Heartfelt Thanks!
