Essie was diagnosed with (CML) chronic myeloma leukemia in 2016. A cancer of the blood that effects less than 1% of the population. After diagnosis, Essie was immediately started on chemotherapy and has been on 5 different chemo medications since her diagnosis. Remission has been unsuccessful. At this point, the doctors have related the chemotherapy to being simply a bandaid for her leukemia. Doctors are saying Essie desperately needs a bone marrow transplant. We have been endlessly searching, for years, through "Be the Match” for a match. We have had countless drives with fundraising to test willing and able people. Our searches have been unsuccessful. We are so thankful to the hundreds of people stepping up to be tested as bone marrow donor for Essie. However, with her ethnicity, it has not been an easy match to find. The doctors decided to retest Kiara (Essie’s Sister) and her brother, Tyler. Although not a perfect match, Essie’s doctors have decided that Kiara will be the best match for her, with her being local. The doctors are working and moving very quickly to get the ball rolling for her transplant. Essie will be hospitalized for at least 2 months during the transplant, which should begin at the end of August. Which brings us to the next roadblock. Essie is only 18 years old and has dreams of becoming a mom one day! Most bone marrow transplant patients become infertile after treatment. So, in an effort to allow her the chance to become a mother in the future Essie will begin therapy to retrieve her eggs and store them for future use. This procedure is very expensive. All this combined with mom, Shannon, being out of work and being Essie’s primary caretaker has given us only one choice, to ask for help. We appreciate any and all donations as we venture to this next stage in her journey to healing! We are so thankful to our family, friends, and community for all that you have done and continue to do for our family! For without you, we aren’t sure where we would be. Please keep the prayers coming! Their power is priceless and we believe in full and complete remission for our sweet Essie!
