Hello! My name is Tandra and I am the momma of the strongest little boy I know. Emmett is 3 years old and has DiGeorge Syndrome, CHD/Pulmonary Atresia with MAPCAs, repaired VSD, Aortic Arch, Chronic Respiratory Failure, Failure to Thrive. He was tracheostomy dependent, and ventilator dependent, and feeding tube dependent but we have finally graduated from that! He was inpatient at Childrens Hospital in Minneapolis from birth until he was 9 months old, with countless surgeries in that time. Emmett had his trach from 3/2024 to 8/2024 and he was fully tube fed his whole life until November 2024, when he started to realize how much he loved to eat real food and that he could really enjoy some mini M&Ms!! Emmett really started to be able to enjoy life and playing with his siblings in fall of 2024. We were able to start seeing and making friends, he could play without stopping with his siblings, we could go to the park and enjoy it! We were so excited for his trach fistula to close so he could enjoy playing in the water, one of his favorite things! He was learning a love for food and eating at the table with mom and dad and big brother Elijah and big sister Elsie. He started to speak a couple words, Mama, Dada, Papa, Baby, and the ever famous BEE! (Which mostly means Lightning McQueen, but sometimes means anything haha) He is signing around 15 words and has several “Emmett signs” He loves Lightning McQueen and has allllll the things BEE! Emmett is the happiest and most joyful little soul you will ever meet. His spirit exudes love. His smile can brighten anyone’s day. He has truly taught our whole family what it means to be joyful in times of pain and sorrow. Everyone could learn a thing about heart from the little boy with a broken one. Since Feb 2024 Emmett’s health has been declining and we haven’t quite pinpointed why. We know he has heart and lung disease, but he was doing so well and we just really want our happy and energetic boy back. Emmett has been inpatient more than home in the last 5 months. He’s gone through so much testing, poking, and stressors and he continues to smile. The most recent testing being a lung biopsy via thoracotomy and a cardiac catheterization in the last couple of weeks. We are still awaiting biopsy results. We are asking for any help we can get at this point. We are so thankful for good insurance coverage for Emmett, but the weeks long hospital stays, bills, loss of income and having to pay for care for the other children is really adding up for Mike and I. Mike is working so hard at work to support our family, and I have lost all of my income when Emmett is in the hospital. As hard as it is for us to ask for help, after months of this we are trying put our pride aside and asking if you are able, to help us through this time. Thank you for considering us, and our sweet Emmett.
