Hi, My name is Constance. I am here to speak on behalf of my friend, Mykah. Mykah and I met in college as two people with such similar life experiences that once those were shared, we were friends for life. Mykah has been through more trauma in her 26 years than any one should ever see. Mykah is the survivor of domestic abuse, incredible loss, and generational trauma. Mykah became a mom on March 16, 2024. Since learning of her pregnancy she has done nothing but focus solely on her son, Lukah. She has been his sole care giver and advocate since day one. If you ask me, she’s done an incredible job. Today Mykah is facing sending her son to a home for court ordered visitation that is toxic for his development and mental well being. The family within that home would subject him to screaming fights, alcohol abuse, food shaming, just to name a few. This home does not belong to Lukah’s dad, who also has no dedicated space for Lukah to sleep, play, and be catered to as he deserves. He also does not even have a working vehicle to transport the child in. Mykah has fought to provide for her son and remove him from any toxic environment. Mykah provides a sober home, a room for Lukah with his own bed and toys, and a solid routine. Due to an emergency visitation order placed by a judge who wouldn’t even allow Mykah to provide her side of the story, she is now facing sending her child back into the environment she worked so hard to keep him out of. At this hearing, Mykah was unable to afford legal counsel to present her case and was therefore unable to show the detriment that her 16 month old, exclusively breast fed son, would be facing being sent three hours away from her care for 2 days a week. Mykah has been the victim of domestic violence more than once in her life, and is fighting to ensure her son never is and never experiences the same traumas she and Lukah’s father experienced. Lukah’s father is only even pursing this at the direction of his mother, who wants her own visitation with Lukah. At this point in time, Mykah has prepaid her bills to ensure security for her and her son and has no additional funding to procure legal counsel. Please help me help my friend. Please help me help this sweet baby boy stay with his loving momma.
