Our dear Sangha sister Marlina and her husband Carl are in need of our help. Marlina is 91 and has kidney disease, undergoing dialysis. Carl has been her devoted caregiver. In June 2024 Carl fell, broke his leg in 3 places and had reconstructive surgery. He couldn’t walk or drive for a few months. This meant he couldn’t shop, make meals, clean house or drive Marlina to dialysis. On top of that, during his treatment, Carl ended up getting Covid and Marlina also got it. He was sick, but able to recover at home. Marlina was hospitalized with weakness and low oxygen. After her discharge, Marlina was very debilitated and still required twice weekly dialysis, a 4 hr ordeal. Funds raised in this site were used to pay 2 wonderful caregivers to shop, cook, clean, bathe, encourage safe exercises, etc. to support Marlina and Carl over the hump of their injuries/illness and into recovery. While Carl couldn't drive, Marlina used a transportation company called Paratransit to get to dialysis and sangha pitched in to pick her up and bring her home. Cheers of appreciation for Perry Brissette and Therese Lahaie!! Now Carl is able to drive again and is bringing Marlina to and from dialysis. Yay!! The caregivers are meeting a critical need especially for Marlina. They are supporting her in ways she didn't even realize she needed before they came! We are thinking this will probably be a long-term need and unfortunately, their income is just over the ridiculously low cut off to get on MediCal so payment for this care will likely be out of pocket. Please make a contribution! All of the donations that we receive will go to pay for caregivers for Marlina and Carl.
