https://gofund.me/054b5bbd My name is Doug Silton and I'm a world adventurer and an artist. My last GoFund $655 for trail clean-up assist with 100% of the money going directly to the Porters who cleaned up the trash from the trails on my trek. Here is the documentary shot for that trip! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpyYqrINGNE&t=5s&ab_channel=DougSilton Next March will be my fourth trip to Nepal and my second trail clean-up!. Every time I return to the Himalayas, I am stunned by how lovely and generous and giving the locals are. When trekking, my guides and porters have always been from a region of the Himalayas called Gorkha which is a 2+ day journey outside of Kathmandu. In 2015, Gorkha was nearly destroyed in an earthquake. Today, the villagers are still rebuilding their homes, while battling perennial landslides and perpetual littering. Additionally, the younger generations often emigrate to other countries searching for jobs, as finding work near home is difficult. This year, my goal again is to give back to the community. After collaborating with my friend and guide, Sun, from Gorka, we have decided to put our energy and funds toward the simple and eco-friendly chore of cleaning up the trash left behind on the Himalayan trails. With that in mind, this LFEBridge will provide daily work for porters to facilitate the collection of trash along the trails, and in the local villages, for as many treks as we can facilitate - whether it's to Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit, Manaslu Circuit, etc. Goals for this fundraiser: (1) Provide paying jobs for villagers who will collect trash and dispose of it properly. (2) Offer trash collecting service to trekking companies as an Eco-friendly “add on” for their affluent customers. (3) Create awareness, while contributing to both the clean-up of the Himalayas and supporting the indigenous people of the region. The minimum trek budget for the eco trail clean-up (separate from my own travel that I pay for directly without the help of a LFEBridge) is $1,200. Budget Breakdown $50/day for two porters for a 30 day trek = $1,500 Pay villages for trash deposit $10/day $300 2 jeeps = $400 Porters food = $10/day $300 Miscellaneous Issues / Delays / Environmentally friendly bags for trash collection, tshirts and hats for porters, disposable gloves: $500 With the minimum amount raised there will be one porter and I will cover the balance of the expenses myself. Once this trip is well documented, my next step will be to approach the huge corporations who sell their goods in Nepal (Coca Cola, Mars/Snickers, etc.) to pitch them for funding for an annual trail clean-up and to create a recycling program in Nepal.
