Earlier this month our 9 year old nephew Harry aka Pocket Rocket, was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma after having a lump removed from his throat. Burkitt lymphoma is a type of fast growing, high grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). A rare form of cancer that affects approx 210 people a year in the UK. Harry is now undergoing intensive investigations and treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The staff at the hospital have been amazing since the minute the diagnosis was received and will no doubt continue to provide outstanding care throughout Harry’s journey to recovery. On the 22-23 July, Gemma will be completing Manvers Dusk Till Dawn Challenge in support of Sheffield Children’s Hospital and hopes to raise £300 for their charity, as a thank you for taking good care of our nephew. The concept of this endurance event is simple, you complete as many 3.21 mile laps of the lakes as you can between 6pm Saturday until 6am Sunday. Gemma and Lee have chosen to also carry 10kg around the course. They have set a target of 30miles, but are determined to push themselves to go as far as possible and hopefully well over the 30 mile mark! Also, given that Harry’s diagnosis was only at the beginning of July this year, neither have done much training for this event, which I’m sure will make it even more interesting!! Any donations and/or words of encouragement will be gratefully received. Thank you
