As a graduate of Jefferson High School in Schoharie County, Doug went to the State of Maryland where he initiated a lifelong endeavor of service to his community. Doug attended the Maryland Corrections Academy in 1984 and served with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in Maryland. In 1986, Doug returned to his home in Upstate New York and was hired by the Village of Cobleskill where he received his New York certification as a Police Officer. In 1987 Doug was hired by the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a Deputy Sheriff. During this time, like many Police Officers Doug started a small business doing excavating called MAVCO Excavating. In 1997, Doug Micha took a position as a Deputy Sheriff in Delaware County. He served faithfully in that position until 1999 when he decided to expand his business. Doug stayed with law enforcement from 1999 until 2003 as a part-time Officer for the Village of Deposit New York. After an eight (8) year respite owning and operating MAVCO construction, Doug returned to his original calling of Law Enforcement. Imagine 52 years young and suffering from a terminal cancer. As Doug and his family are struggling to deal with this news, friends and brothers and sisters in law enforcement are reeling in disbelief asking all the questions of “What can we do?” And “how much time do we have to do it in?”Doug Micha has spent a life time of taking care of things. He worked hard with his business employing people even at the point of not getting paid himself. He has dedicated his life to the premise and belief of doing the right thing and proving it as a lifetime law enforcer. Helping people is not just his credo, it is what he did and still does today. We would ask that anyone who feels compelled to assist in helping out this exceptional human being who has spent a lifetime in the service of others to respond. Perhaps give to a person who has spent his life giving to others. So now it is a full circle and Doug needs your help. Help us close the circle.
