Sean and Maddie Young were married in June 2024, and just under a year later, Sean suddenly became very ill. He was rushed to Elliot Hospital in Manchester NH in early May where he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. When arriving to the hospital, his heart was very weak and his body was in shock. In addition to a weakened heart, seven blood clots were discovered in the heart, brain, lung, liver, and other organs. Prior to this, Sean was living a normal life as a 27-year old, working, exercising, and enjoying activities with friends and family. After some additional complications, Sean was transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Sean’s heart was not improving with medication and other forms of support, and eventually needed open-heart surgery in early June to install a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), which is now supporting the left side of his heart. The surgery went well and the device was successfully implanted. However, shortly after the surgery, the right side of Sean’s heart was not pumping efficiently. This required an extended stay in the ICU while Sean was also given a Right Ventricular Assist Device (RVAD). After a two week stay in the ICU, the RVAD was taken out and he has since left the hospital. Sean is now home and getting stronger everyday, but has a long road of recovery which includes rehabilitation and an eventual heart transplant once one becomes available. This LFEBridge campaign was set up to allow friends, family, colleagues and generous strangers help cover the costs that have already been incurred from the initial diagnosis and the treatment that still lies ahead. Sean is a very humble person but he is also a fighter. Maddie and Sean should be enjoying life as newly-weds but now have a challenging road ahead. Please donate to help Sean and Maddie during this difficult time.
