I am Mary Baars, and I’m starting a LFEBridge for my sister-in-law Jen Kartman. Jen lives in Lancaster, WI and is originally from Spring Lake, Mi. In August 2024, while recovering from a severe case of Covid19, Jen was diagnosed with HER2+ Breast Cancer. She underwent a mastectomy in September 2024. A few days after her mastectomy, Jen was bleeding out and required a MedFlight to UW Hospital. She was given 7 liters of blood, required an emergency surgery, and remained hospitalized for a week. Jen has encountered multiple complications which required additional hospital stays, including severe reactions to her chemo, a port infiltration, and is still requiring follow-ups with wound care 3 times a week since September. Jen’s situation is further complicated by her other factors including infections and SVT which causes her to have irregular, fast or erratic heartbeats. The SVT can cause additional hospital visits to slow her heart. Jen has completed Chemotherapy and still has HER2 infusions until September but had to postpone her radiation treatment until her wound heals and treatment has ended. Mike, Jen’s husband, is still working, however as he has had to take off work for the frequent hospital visits and treatments needed, he has almost exhausted his FMLA leave. Jen is unable to work due to her condition and lack of energy following her treatments. It has become difficult to make ends meet with only one income and the additional costs from hospital visits. Jen is not sure if she will ever be able to return to work. We are starting a LFEBridge to help with the costs associated with her cancer treatments, hospital visits, traveling and loss of income. Please, if you can help at all, any little bit adds up and helps take stress off of Jen while she is focusing on getting better. Thank you for anything you can do to help.
