A few weeks ago Janna noticed a pain in her stomach. It didn't take long to realize it was something that needed to be checked. After an ultrasound and a scan, they confirmed it was a large ovarian tumor and would need to be surgically removed. The surgery revealed that cancer had spread throughout her body. Janna has been diagnosed with stage 4 appendiceal adenocarcinoma. It's a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The shock of the diagnosis has rocked her family and friends. Janna is one of the strongest, most joyful and loyal friends I have had the blessing to know. She is a patient, kind, loving mother to her four kids who adore her. Logan, the oldest at 13, already volunteered to shave his head if his mom loses her hair during treatment. ❤️ James, her husband spent a week away from his students while Janna had surgery and a hospital recovery. Sleeping on a makeshift bed, researching every chance he gets, physically and emotionally by her side, he has been an anchor for her to rely on. Janna is surrounded by a large extended family and countless friends and supporters. She is precious and loved by many. Cheerful and optimistic, Janna is facing cancer with these same qualities. She knows the value of a positive attitude. I asked her about the possibility of losing her hair. "Let's make it a party!" was her response. "If I'm going to lose my hair, let's have a party and shave it off together." Although she experiences the fear and emotions associated with this disease, she prefers laughter and humor as her weapons of choice. This will be a long and difficult journey for Janna and her family. We can help by raising funds so at least the financial burden isn't one more thing on their plate. Please consider donating to this family for their long battle ahead.
