Hi Friends & Family- I have the opportunity to go to New Zealand for a discipleship program called Youth With a Mission, Crossroads edition (26 years and up). I am thrilled and blessed to be able to spend a season steeping in God's word with a community of believers. We will spend three months of intense Bible study, lectures, prayer, and worship. Afterwards we will spend the next two months on a mission that we will decide upon as a group. This will involve meeting practical needs of people and sharing the gospel. I grew up with excellent role-model parents who loved Jesus and each other. Steve and Doreen's lives were filled with peace and joy. Sure they had their struggles but their lives were not chaotic or out of control. Their words and actions honored God. I am filled with gratitude that they sacrificed their hard-earned income to send us to the private Christian school. The Christian community was a cherished gift that I have cherished and continued to seek. I watched my dad read his bible nightly, take care of single moms handy-man work, show up in support for everyone and anyone's sporting event, and teach 5th grade Sunday school. I watched my mom make meals for the sick, buy Christmas presents for those in need, and lead Bible study after Bible study. Though I have always been surrounded and encouraged by strong believers in Christ, I have spent many seasons exploring the world. Whenever I faced major challenges in my life, I would eventually resort to a life of partying. This always led to major destruction in my life. For years I have considered attending a discipleship program and I have been encouraged by many friends who have attened to do so. However, I chose to take the safe route and focused on work and sought to build my career. This past year I decided it is time. I want to continue to live in Christian community where those surrounding me are making healthy choices. I want to regularly be in the word of God. I want to be mentored. I want to be forever delivered of strongholds I have resorted to over the years. I want to grow in my love for worship. After this program, I would be thrilled to join the leadership team with this incredible program. However, I will wait on God and see what He does through this time spent seeking Him and then sharing His love on mission. Colleen
