Hi, my name is Elizabeth and I am Devin’s mother. Devin was born with a rare genetic kidney disease called Alports. This disease attacks the kidneys, hearing and eyesight. Devin was diagnosed with this condition his freshman year of high school, when his hearing started to decline. There were many bumps in the road that year. For the most part Devin lives a normal life. He loves playing sports, hanging out with his friends and family and being a 20 year old. Devin works a full time job and is a really great guy! He’s full of life, always with a smile, easy going and very caring! He’s the guy that everyone loves. I’m proud to be his mother! We thought we had a lot more time before he would need a transplant (40’s) but things have taken a dramatic toll within this past year. We were recently told this horrible news that he will need a transplant within the year. He is only at about 25% functioning currently and at about 10-15% dialysis will start. We hope to find a match before that happens. Dialysis is a horrible way to have to live. Recovery time for a transplant is about 6 weeks. I am hoping to raise enough money to take care of all medical, time off work, etc. for him and even possibly his donor. Nobody should have to worry about going into debt, while just trying to live, especially not someone so young with so much life left to live. Please help however you can. Thank you in advance and God Bless!
