On my mission, I had a companion from Cambodia named Monisak Yon. Monisak’s father died when he was very young, and he and his mother lived in poverty for most of his childhood. Because they were so poor, Monisak dropped out of school in 9th grade so he could get a job to help support his family. When he was 20 years old, Monisak found the church and was quickly baptized. For the next 5 years he worked at DHL Shipping in order to save $500 to pay to go on a mission. During that time saving for a mission, Monisak was hit by a car. He woke up with his 5 front teeth knocked out. As someone who had grown up in near total poverty, he had no way to pay for proper dental care and was forced to pay for an extremely cheap, ineffective, and temporary solution.  Since being back from his mission, the issues with his teeth are still an exhausting problem for him. The equipment that he has to fill in the large gaps in his teeth is broken in many places and often cuts into his mouth when he wears it. He has a lot of difficulty eating, and speaking clearly can be difficult at times as well. Since returning from serving as a missionary, Monisak is still working hard to make a happy life for his family. He has sought out college education, but has had his visa denied for three consecutive years. He is now trying to start his own business in Cambodia to try to care of his mother and new wife.   Proper dental care is available in Cambodia, and although it is far less expensive there than in a place like the United States, it is still far too expensive for most anyone in Cambodia to be able to afford. Dental restoration for Monisak in the US would cost upwards of $50,000-$60,000, but in Cambodia, proper care would cost much less.   We are working to raise money for Monisak to get the help he needs. Our plan to raise that money is as follows:  Overall Fundraising Goal: $9,000  While we are raising money in America, Monisak is working in Cambodia to be able to gather $2,000 on his own to go towards dental restoration (This leaves $7,000 to be raised.)  A generous backer has offered to match everything that you donate. If you donate $100, our backer will donate $100 as well.   This means that if just 35 people donate $100 dollars, we would reach our goal and get Monisak the help he needs.   We are accepting donations of 50, 100, 150, and 200+. If you are willing and able, we would greatly appreciate anything that you can contribute.  We are excited to help Monisak get back to being able to function so that he can run his new business and support his family in Cambodia.
