Deena’s family and closest friends are hosting a benefit and raising money to help with the unexpected costs that her battle with breast cancer is causing. This past January after an abnormal mammogram, Deena found out she had to get an urgent ultrasound and biopsy of her left breast. During this biopsy they found three 1 cm cancerous lumps. She immediately had to meet with a surgeon and oncologist and decided to undergo a double mastectomy. With a strong history of cancer in our family, she made this decision quickly and easily for herself. But, she had to wait 4 weeks for her surgery. During her operation the surgeon found that one of the three lumps grew to 8cm from the time she had the biopsy until the surgery. This was incredibly rapid. She also discovered that she had to remove 20 lymph nodes from her armpit and three of the 20 came back cancerous. Deena’s third week of recovery did not go as well as she had hoped. She encountered difficulties with her incision on her right side. The skin around her incision started turning gray and drainage was occuring. She had to undergo a revision procedure to fix the incision site. Deena faced another setback during her fourth week of recovery. Her revision site caused her even more complications. Her incision popped open a wound the size of a nickel due to fluid build up. After a week of getting it cleaned and packed every day, she ended up receiving a wound vac to help speed up her recovery process. On May 26th, Deena started her first round of Chemotherapy. In total, she will be receiving twenty rounds. After chemo is over she will then be receiving radiation. Medical bills have been more than initially anticipated, and her inability to work has also come unexpectedly. We are also hosting a benefit to help alleviate the financial strain that comes along with this treatment & healing for her. Let’s help Deena and her family focus on her treatment plan and most importantly, her quality of life in these difficult times. Every little bit helps and can make a huge difference for her family. Thank you in advance for your generosity!
