Photo to follow. Our wonderful friend Dee Dee Shields needs help! In 2014, Dee Dee was diagnosed with breast cancer. Following her doctors' recommendations, Dee Dee went through radiation treatment and was cancer free. Last year the cancer came back with a vengeance when she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. After complaining of headaches, Dee Dee was diagnosed with a brain tumor this spring. She had brain surgery on July 17th and is recovering well! Her spelling is a bit off, but her sense of humor is fully intact. After she left Thornburg, Dee Dee built a very successful business providing much-needed eldercare and guardianship services for many Santa Feans. Unfortunately, she's had to suspend her work activities to make room for chemotherapy treatments and now her recovery from brain surgery. If you know Dee Dee, then you smile at the thought of her fantastic personality, stellar sense of humor and red hair. I can't begin to count the times that being with her hasn't made my life better. You probably know what I mean. Now she needs our help to ensure she receives the care she needs and has enough of a cushion that she doesn't have to worry. Her brother Rance, sister-in-law Erin and other friends have been providing support. Now she requires professional caregivers. Those of us who have retained caregiving services for injured, sick or elderly family members know, it's very expensive. Let's show Dee Dee how much we love her and how much we appreciate all of the happiness she's given us over the years. It's the least we can do! Please pass this on to everyone who knows her!
