On the evening of March 1st, 2024 Dawn was rear-ended by a box truck on I-35, fracturing 3 vertebrae in her thoracic spine and perforating her esophagus. The full diagnosis and severity of those injuries wouldn't be fully realized for several weeks. In the meantime infection took hold of her spine, resulting in partial paralysis and a serious fall that landed her back in the ER and in surgery days later to have 10" of rod and screws permanently implanted, esophageal repair, and a feeding tube installed. 5 surgeries and assorted procedures later Dawn spent the next month in the rehab hospital regaining some of her mobility and her ability to eat. Today, she continues to fight to regain her life and independence. Through intensive work with PT and OT she is able to walk with the assistance of a walker and is spending less and less time every day dependent on a wheelchair. And while she has worked incredibly hard to quite literally get back on her feet, she is still unable to work full-time and has a pile of medical bills mounting on top of her lost earnings. Dawn has always been the first person to offer help to anyone in need or to craft something thoughtful to brighten someone's day. She has put her family, loved ones, and friends before herself time and again, and now it is our chance to show her our support and appreciation by donating to help cover the medical expenses that are growing by the day. Dawn is also thankful for your prayers, well wishes, and offers of assistance while she has been on her road to recovery. She has fought her way back over huge hurdles and crossed dozens of milestones, but has a long road ahead. Your donations will help her continue her PT & OT, purchase mobility equipment, as well as relieve some of the financial strain that this accident has unfairly put upon her.
