Despite all the tender and beautiful moments of this past year and a half, it's safe to say this has also been a time of tragic loss and grief on so many levels... Over the last 15 months, I have experienced losing 3 incredible souls far too early in life due to cancer. Now, my beautiful cousin Leanne is also battling cancer (Double Hit Diffuse Large B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma) and is currently working through her 6th round of chemo treatments. Watching a loved one fight or lose this battle certainly has a way of making you feel helplessly on the periphery. When cancer makes up its mind, there’s often no stopping it. But, with enough time and money and research, we may be able to help change this one day. The thought of shaving my head, both in solidarity and to help raise some money, has been at the forefront of my mind this past year. And although I know raising money for charity won't remove the pain and reality of losing a precious life (especially those lost tragically and unrelated to cancer), it is one tangible gesture that I feel I can do to express both my deep sympathy and stand in solidarity. Those of you who’ve known me most of my life, know this won’t be the first time I’ll have chopped off my locks for a cause. (Though I’m finding 11-year-old Lisa was far braver than grown-up Lisa, as she jumped in immediately with no hesitation). Alas, here we are finally. And, if 11-year-old Lisa Lou can raise close to $2000 then certainly 33-year-old Lisa can over double that. On top of raising this money, I will also be donating my hair to a charity that makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to chemo treatments. Let's help make a difference in some kids’ life! I'm aiming to raise $4000+ in aid of the Canadian Cancer Society and every donation will help. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your contribution- no matter how big or small- to this cause that means so much to me X More information about the Canadian Cancer Society: "Today and every day, all of us at the Canadian Cancer Society are committed to making a difference in the lives of the nearly half of Canadians expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.
