Last Friday night (July 14, 2024) my sister, Mariah Artz, was walking down a tall flight of smooth concrete stairs when her left foot lost grip and her ankle rolled over. Thankfully she did not fall down the stairs, but when she tried to stand up her foot literally would “not work”. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency room where the X-rays showed the ankle was completely detached and she had 3 broken bones. They “set” her ankle in the ER, but said she would need surgery to repair all the damage. She is having surgery today (July 19, 2024) and they told her that she will have 6 screws and a plate put in to stabilize her ankle. She will not be able to place any weight on her foot for 10-12 weeks. Mariah works as a cocktail waitress at Johnny’s Hideaway in Atlanta and won’t be able to go back to work for at least 3 months and even then she won’t know how much she’ll be able to do since it’s a fast paced, on your feet all night, type of environment. Mariah has medical insurance so we are looking to help her out by raising enough to cover her basic living expenses: rent, utilities, insurance, food, etc. so she can focus on her recovery and get back up on her feet (literally) as soon as possible. Those that know Mariah personally know that she would give you the shirt off her back. She steps up to help everyone around her as much and as often as she can. Mariah is also fiercely independent and doesn’t like asking for help for herself. Hopefully, we can make this period just a little bit easier for her. Every little bit will help. Thank you!
