Aaron Boyd was brutally beaten in front of his three terrified young daughters for refusing to abandon the food he had just finished barbecuing for them. Ten men kicked him, stomped on him, and cut his leg to the bone, severing a tendon above the knee and partially severing the muscle. He is currently unable to walk without assistance. Please help Aaron take care of his daughters' basic needs while he recovers from his injuries. It's thanks to intervention by community members from a nearby garden that Aaron is still alive. After the beating, he was taken away in an ambulance and underwent emergency surgery, but he has a long road to recovery and is in tremendous pain. He currently can’t bend his leg at all, so his daughters help him hold it up whenever he has to step up onto a curb. Getting on and off the bus is incredibly difficult. Taking care of himself is a major challenge, let alone properly caring for his daughters. Aaron and his daughters, ages 3, 7, and 11, are currently living in a shelter in Bushwick. The girls' mother died of Covid, and Aaron has been supporting his family with carpentry and day-rate work. Because of this assault, he now cannot work. Aaron is a great dad. When his oldest daughter asked for a cell phone for her birthday and he knew he could not afford two, he gave up his own phone so she could have one. He's generous and he keeps life fun for all his children. Although their current living arrangements lack regular access to a kitchen, he often makes an outing out of dinner, bringing his daughters to a nearby community garden (which happily opens up its space for those with nowhere else to cook). Aaron and his family have become dear members of the garden community: the girls love helping to pull weeds and harvest produce while their dad is cooking. Two of them hosted their recent birthday parties there. Please contribute anything you're able to help Aaron and his family in their time of great need.
