This LFEBridge page was created with the broad purpose of serving the Orthodox Church in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and in particular of funding the construction of a church dedicated to St. John of Shanghai. Father Markos, the only monk of St. John of Shanghai monastery in the DRC, is struggling to complete the monastery chapel to provide a proper house for the Divine Mysteries and daily worship. The foundation has already been laid, and some stones put in place for the walls. But the walls and roof remain to be built. This church will be the monastery's first actual church. Before this point Father Markos has done what he can with a repurposed cell in the monastery. When completed, this chapel would help serve the nearby convent of the Dormition. The solitary nun of this convent has to travel many miles into the city of Kinshasa to attend services at the moment. Completing this chapel at the monastery of St. John would provide her the chance to attend services regularly which is otherwise impossible due to the great distance. This relatively small donation of 5,000 will make a huge difference for the Christians in the DRC. Likely all of us have memories of the affect a monastery had on our life in Christ. We hope to allow others in the DRC to experience this spiritual good by supporting the monastery of St. John. Furthermore, raising these funds takes a load off of Metropolitan Ambrose who is responsible for this diocese and who routinely shoulders the task of fundraising on top of his other responsibilities and constant traveling from country to country. Whatever you could give to this project would be greatly appreciated. If you know anyone else who you feel would want to support the Orthodox Church in the DRC, please feel free to share this page with them. Thank you. In Christ, Timothy Granger
