I’m Kiley Hilyer, Christens sister. My brother-in-law, Chris Porter, has been diagnosed with stage IV metastatic adenocarcinoma non-small cell lung cancer. Chris is just 48 years old, is a non-smoker, and is in otherwise good health. Scans have revealed that the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes, spine, hip, and the fluid surrounding his brain. Two months ago, nothing was different. And in two months time they’ve had to scramble to drop their full time jobs and re-route everything with absolutely no warning. My sister, Christen, and Chris have been traveling almost 4 hours away to MD Anderson Cancer Treatment Center in Houston for more tests and treatment. They need our help now. It is with extreme urgency, humbleness, and deepest gratitude that I ask friends, family, and anyone that reads this to please donate to my family. They need help with travel expenses, hotel stays, medical costs, assistance with lost wages and anything else that will make their lives even a fraction easier while they face this battle. Sharing and donating for Chris and the Porter family will allow them to focus on the challenges they have ahead, and not have to worry about the financial strain associated with this terrible disease. Chris is a 10th Mountain Division Army Veteran and was still active duty when he met my sister in 2001. Chris immediately fit into our family. He is funny, a little shy, incredibly smart, kind, and appreciates reading, good food, music, and he is absolutely selfless. He became a father to my nephew, Dylan, and niece, McKenna, and would go on to adopt them. One of the most special days in our family. They relocated to Texas where they built a life together. They share 5 children and 7 grandchildren who know him as “Pop”. Chris is a wonderful father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and “Pop”. But, one of the things that I love most about him is how wonderful he is to my sister. The love they show for each other is unbreakable. Please keep Chris and the rest of my family in your thoughts, prayers, and good vibes. Chris has taken the best care of my family for a very long time. And now it’s time to take care of him.
