Meiktila 1-23 will collectively cover 6,477 miles over the next 9 weeks through running, swimming or cycling, this is the distance from RAF Honington to Meiktila in Burma, one of the Regiments greatest and proudest battle honours. All donations will go to the Centurion Fund, the Regiments charity. The Burma campaign of 1941 to 1945 is often referred to as The Forgotten War. The siege of Meiktila lasted some 30 days. On 31 March, the enemy commanders gave up hope of recapturing Meiktila. Over the course of 3 weeks, the Japanese had at times come close to completely denying use of the airfield, but they were beaten back by dogged defence. The thrust for, capture, and successful defence of Meiktila was one of the significant milestones in the reconquest of Burma. The Centurion Fund is the Regiments charity. Supporting Veterans, remembering our fallen and protecting our proud history is the cornerstone of the fund. The fund also delivers support to Corps and Squadron events, funding for projects, sport and fosters comradeship.
