Hi, my name is Linda Robbins and I am raising funds to help the Mapes family with medical care and living expenses for Carrie's husband Hal who was diagnosed with ALS. Carrie's latest Facebook post highlights the urgent need of their situation. "Since it has been a while, I figured it is time for an update on Hal. 2 months ago, insurance denied his ALS medicine stating that he no longer met the criteria for approval. We fought the decision and lost. We completely understand that there is no miracle cure, but this medication was helping slow down his progression. As a result, his progression has speed up significantly. I can only understand about 25% of what he says on good days. His right arm/hand has gotten so weak, he can hardly hold his phone and has almost no dexterity. He is now fed via his feeding tube only but can still manage small sip of water. I use a lift to get get him out of the bed and into his chair and back into bed at night. His legs can no longer get the signals to move correctly to walk more than a few steps before they give out so he no longer walks. He tries so hard but there is very little that he can do without my help. We are discussing switching over to hospice so we can hopefully get some help. On my side, I am still trying to keep up the housework and yard work, work a full time job (thankfully I am allowed to work from home) and take care Hal 24/7. We are also in the middle of our bathroom remodel and repairing termite damage. I feel like I live in a constant state of being overwhelmed and exhausted so if you have tried contacting me and I haven't got back with you, please understand and reach out again.
