Hello! We are Carolyn Guérard Cale and Mark Evans of Charleston SC, and we have a great wish to call upon our community for support, by crowdfunding our homebirth and postpartum recovery. Carolyn is expecting to give birth to our second child in the first week of September. We are planning a home birth with our midwife, Julie, her assistant, Clare, and our doula, Kaitlyn. Clare will also be our postpartum doula, providing nourishing meals and support for Carolyn's recovery. Our goal for this Birth Fund, $10,000, would cover compensation for our birth team, as well as part of our rent and basic living expenses for about 8 weeks postpartum. When our first child was born, Mark was only able to take 1 week off of work. Carolyn was able to take off 8 weeks, using both money we had saved up and were so generously given for our wedding. It was very painful for both of us when Mark had to return to full-time work so soon- it hindered bonding and recovery. What helped us the most during that time were Clare's homemade meals, company, and support- and during this time she become a very close friend. We would be so incredibly grateful to be able to have 8 weeks together this time; to bond with and care for our new baby, give our son Rory the attention and care that he needs, and still have time for rest and recovery. We deeply believe it is the right of every parent to be wholeheartedly supported through the process of bringing children into the world, and we look forward to passing on these blessings later in life when we are able to do so. In the meantime, we will continue to envision and do our part to create a world where that support is given freely to all who ask for it. Thank you all so much, We Love You
