Hi, my name is Kasi and I am fundraising for my mother Carole's cancer treatment. In February mom was rushed to the ER with near terminal kidney failure. It was upon the attempted treatment of her kidneys that the cause was found: Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. The cancer was specifically formed blocking both her kidneys from emptying, and her bladder from fully emptying, and had been growing for some time. She had nephrostomy tubes put into both kidneys to save them while a plan of attack was formed for the cancer. My mother was sedated for 4 days as we sat by, waiting to let her know that she had survived, but had stage 2 cancer. As a plan of treatment was being crafted to treat her bladder cancer, they found a secondary form of cancer: Small Cell Lung Cancer. The lung cancer was seen as more serious, and it's treatment took priority. At this point she has gone through full treatment for her lung cancer, including 3 times a week chemo, daily radiation, and weekly labs. They say her lung cancer is "pretty much gone.". Meanwhile, her bladder cancer has only grown and caused many dangerous UTIs, bringing on severe bouts of delirium. Her nephrostomy tubes have caused infections, and her extreme pain has caused further issues, including dangerous weight loss. At this point we have utilized her insurance to the fullest ability, along with the savings of our whole family. She is currently unable to continue chemo until she gains 10-15 pounds, but cannot eat due to pain. She is still undergoing daily radiation in an attempt to stave off further growth, but the cancer will not be beaten without further chemo. She is too delirious to be home alone, and requires full time care. Her treatment center is an hour drive away and she has daily appointments. We've managed to schedule full time daily care between my sister Nicole, Mother in Law Nancy, myself and Carole's husband Al, but this isn't sustainable long term and we don't know where else, or who else to turn to. So many people have reached out. Carole has made huge impacts on so many people's lives, and truly is an amazing friend, mother and now grandmother. She has been full of energy, vibrancy and a love for life until these diagnosis. In her moments of lucidity she reminds us that she's already beaten the cancer: it just takes a few steps to prove. She wants to live. I know times are hard for everyone, and we don't want anyone to feel obligated to help us, but we could really use a hand. Even just sharing the fundraiser helps! Any funds raised will go to medical bills, travel, treatment, and potentially hiring additional help. Thank you for reading, and for helping us save my mom. Please feel free to reach out with any questions- I will update with her care as things develop. We are sending strength, love and empathy to all those who have been in our shoes, and gratitude to all those who continue to show our family love and support.
