Please help Carol to regain some physical mobility and emotional well-being. I am asking for donations to enable Carol to buy a specialized exercise machine called a Sci Fit Sport Total Body exercise bike, with wheelchair ramp and high-support boots. This is specialized equipment that will allow Carol to exercise while she is at home and in her wheelchair. The equipment is estimated to cost $13,500.00 and Carol and her husband simply don’t have money to pay for this kind of item as neither of them have extended health plans and Carol’s medical needs not covered by Alberta Health Care are significant. I'm Lori Aylwin ( Kavanagh)- Carol and I have been friends since grade 3; when we met at Westgate Elementary, and we remained close until I moved to Ontario after high school. This year we both turn the big 6-0. Although we live 2000 miles apart and we could go years without seeing each other, we have kept in touch, and have shared our good times and our challenges. We both got married, had careers, and children, and homes to run, and the years went by fast. Our lives have been pretty great for the most part and we considered ourselves blessed to be leading active, happy lives. Carol was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in July of 2000 and her health has gradually deteriorated. As a result of her illness, the day-to-day tasks we take for granted have become more and more difficult for Carol. As Carol’s mobility decreased, Carol looked for ways to keep active including aqua mobility swimming program at Vecova Recreational Centre and exercising with specialized equipment and fitness program at University of Calgary. However, when Covid hit, Carol’s outside activities halted. The lack of physical activity and social isolation during the pandemic really took a toll on Carol, and Carol can no longer get out on a regular basis or go to community programs. Carol has a homecare aide from Alberta Health Services come to her home twice weekly to help her with range of motion exercises, but this therapy isn’t enough to slow the progression of her MS. This year, I was privileged to be able to take a trip of a lifetime for my 60th and I wished that Carol could come with me, but Carol can’t travel - Carol spends her days inside, in her wheelchair. I would love to be able to raise the money required to help my friend get the equipment she needs to improve her leg strength and cardio to help her get back some quality of life. Will you please help?
