Due to the outpouring of love and requests for support, we have created this page to help Ken, Kelsey, Kerrigan, and Koen during their journey. Please give as you are able, but also use this page to send words of love and support. We will provide updates as we are able and as the family allows. We want to give Kelsey, Ken, Kerrigan, and Koen all the space and uninterrupted time they need together. On June 1st, Kelsey and Ken went in for the 20 week anatomy scan and found that baby A had complications due to a leak in the amniotic sac. After being placed on bed rest and sent home, they were then admitted on June 21st for constant monitoring at ECU Health. We all celebrated each week that she carried her sweet boys and watched as they made it a second home for them. Their goal was to make it to 34 weeks before induction. Though they were restricted on outside visitors, they did get a special pass to allow their pup, Cooper, to visit in their room away from home. Early Thursday morning, July 27th, Kelsey gave birth via emergency c-section to their beautiful boys, Koen Lucas and Kerrigan Grey. “7/27/23 A day that brought us our highest highs and our lowest lows. After 6 long weeks in the hospital, our sweet boys decided to make their entrance just shy of 28 weeks via emergency C-section. First Koen Lucas then Kerrigan Grey shortly after. Given their prematurity the boys both required immediate transfer to the NICU for closer care, however given the complications we had during pregnancy with Koen it became apparent very quickly that he was in much more serious condition. Our sweet boy fought very hard, however due to severely underdeveloped lungs he passed away peacefully in our arms, surrounded by so many people who loved him. 12 hours was far too short, but we are so thankful for the time we were able to have with him and know he is watching over his brother closely as he continues his NICU journey. Kerrigan is currently intubated, but in stable condition and his team of doctors are optimistic about his outcomes though he has a long road ahead. We hope to provide happy updates about our sweet Kerrigan in the coming weeks as we continue to work through both our excitement of becoming new parents and our grief of losing Koen. We have had so much support throughout this impossible time from our care team, to our friends and family, to my residency family who has been there every step of the way. Your love means more than we could ever say thank you for. ” Throughout the past month and hopefully many weeks to come, Kelsey and Ken have been at the hospital focused on their family and not able to work. As of 7/30, Kelsey is slowly healing from her infection and c-section, and she has been discharged from the hospital. Unfortunately, Kerrigan is in critical condition but is showing us everyday just how strong he is. We would like them to be able to continue this journey without worrying about coming home to the inevitable household and medical bills. If you are willing and able, any support is appreciated. And if you are not that is okay too! Please use this space to send words of love and encouragement for their family. When they are able they can look here to see how loved their family is and how large their support system is, and until then please keep them in your thoughts and prayers while they take the uninterrupted time they need. We will provide updates as Kelsey and Ken allow, but know that they feel the outpouring of love and are eternally grateful. Thank you for all the love and support for Kelsey, Ken, Kerrigan, and Koen ❤️
