On March 23, 2024, Claire Danforth went to the emergency room at Boston Children's Hospital and was immediately admitted to the intensive care unit and was diagnosed with a brain tumor (low-grade glioma) and hydrocephalus. Claire had emergency brain surgery the next day. Her surgeon was able to remove 60% of her tumor which is located on her brain stem and placed a permanent ETV to drain fluid. Low-grade gliomas (the second leading cause of childhood cancer) are treated surgically and with chemotherapy. Claire will require ongoing treatment and very close monitoring throughout her childhood. She is a patient now at both Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana Farber Jimmy Fund Clinic. She is being treated by a team of incredible specialists including a neurosurgical oncologist, a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric neuro-oncologist, a neuro-ophthalmologist, and an otolaryngology “ENT” physician. Claire has done very well in her recovery, she works EXTREMELY hard in both physical and occupational therapy multiple times each week. Anyone that knows Claire knows how resilient she is. She absolutely loves school, dancing, her friends, her family, and her beloved dog Gordon. She is energetic and loves to be around people. She loves hosting parties of all kinds. Since her surgery, she has hosted a weekly “dog walking club” to raise money for our local MSPCA and she hosted a lemonade stand this week to raise money for a cancer retreat here on the Cape. However, her tumor is growing, and she will be having another surgery soon (this summer) to help remove more of the tumor and to remove a cyst that has formed next to her tumor. As luck would have it, she also needs to have her tonsils removed, so she will be having that done soon as well. As you can imagine, Stefanie and Steve have been through unimaginable hardships as they navigate this journey. Throughout this difficult time, they have not only faced emotional and physical challenges but have also experienced a significant loss of wages due to the extensive care required for Claire’s treatments. Together, my hope is that we can alleviate some of their financial burdens and provide them with the peace of mind they deserve as they focus on Claire, her recovery, and future treatment. Your donation to this LFEBridge will provide vital financial support to them, helping to cover medical expenses, ongoing therapies, and everyday living costs. Whether you contribute financially or not, prayers and healing thoughts are always welcome. Please know that their family is forever grateful to those who already prayed for Claire. Thank you so very much for reading this.
