I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on our last visit to MD Anderson this week. They had found a shadow on her last PET scan so we were told to come back in 6 months so they could chart changes and make determinations on what is going on. The PET scan this week showed that her thyroid cancer had gone to her lungs.....we knew that but we were under the impression that this was not an issue when we saw the Dr in San Antonio. That is no longer the case. There are several spots that have grown at a rate that needs a course of action. They gave us the option of radiation treatment that would target them directly over 2-3 weeks or chemo. They all encouraged us strongly to pursue the radiation and we agreed. Then they wanted a biopsy on the growing node in her neck....which sadly also turned out to be cancer. He told us that he would be able to remove the spot in her neck when we came to do her radiation with minimal hospital stay and possibly sending her to the hotel with me the same day. To say that it did not go as we hoped is an understatement.....But God is good and we will attack this one bite at a time. The doctor told us that her cancer will never be gone, but will require action as needed. But he encouraged the possibility of another 10-15 years which makes all of this completely worthwhile. As this is going to bring a fairly large financial blow this will help to remove financial stress from an already tough emotional situation. She is a fighter....and we will continue to work to fight this fight!! We are shooting for treatment in October. As always, I will keep you posted!
