Mary Kate and Logan Newman are the best parents anyone could ask for! Norah is 2 years old, and she’s so excited to meet her new baby brothers. Mary Kate had an extremely tough pregnancy. The boys were initially mo-di twins, meaning they shared a placenta (blood supply), but they were in separate sacs. At 17 weeks pregnant, they were diagnosed with stage 3 TTTS, meaning one baby was getting too much blood, and the other wasn’t getting enough. Since there are no treatment options in Memphis, they got a call that day to head to Houston to a specialist for surgery. They drove all night, along with Logan’s mom, and they were in surgery the next morning. The babies had a 60% chance of survival, but they did great! They were able to come home, and MK continued to be on bed rest, except for her OB visits twice per week, and Logan did a great job working a full time job, taking care of the house, Norah, and Mary Kate. At 23 weeks pregnant, one of her ultrasounds showed that the membrane that used to separate the boys had broken, wrapped around Beckett’s wrist, and was pinching his umbilical cord. This complication was an incredibly rare result of the first surgery. Back to Houston they went, again at a moment’s notice with mom this time! (Thank God MK and Logan both have great parents). The surgeon was able to successfully cut the band off of Beckett. He said Beckett was very close to losing his hand completely, and it was the most difficult surgery he had ever done of this type. After this complication, the boys were now considered mo-mo twins, because they were in the same sac, adding more risk to this already high risk pregnancy, and putting MK on permanent inpatient hospital bed rest. The 3 holes in the boys’ amniotic sac from surgeries, and the stress on MK’s body caused her water to break, and she went into labor 2 days later with an emergency rushed C-section for a suspected placental abruption. The sweet boys were born on July 16th, at 24 weeks and 5 days. Beckett weighed 1 pound 13 ounces, and Callan weighed 1 pound 10 ounces. These boys have overcome every obstacle they’ve faced. They are small but mighty!!! They will be in the NICU in Houston until around their due date of October 31st if all goes to plan, but they still have a long road ahead of them. MK and Logan are now living in the Houston Ronald McDonald House until the boys are able to go home. If anyone would like to help, we would greatly appreciate it for them! Cash through the LFEBridge account for travel, parking, and many months of medical bills, DoorDash/restaurant gift cards for food, Amazon gift cards for baby items, or anything else is so very appreciated! We weren’t able to have a shower for them because MK was on bed rest so early into her pregnancy, so we hope to set up a nursery for them before they come back. For any questions, call or text Holly Doyle Uttal at [phone redacted] or Denise Doyle at [phone redacted]. Even without monetary gifts, we greatly appreciate your thoughts, prayers, and cards! Logan and Mary Kate have a great community surrounding them!
