My name is Sydney Kirksey and I am starting this go fund me for my closest friend Caitlin Alligood. To know her is to love her and she has devoted her life to caring for others. Now she needs a little care herself. When Caitlin was 25 years old, she walked into ICU where she worked and stepped into a patient's room and her hip collapsed. That same day she was diagnosed with Avascular necrosis (bone death) of the right hip. She persevered for 3 months on a shorter leg and eventually had a right total hip replacement. At this time, she was told this was an isolated event and would likely be her last time dealing with it. Fast forward to last year, she got sick with pneumonia and the ED physician found Avascular necrosis in both of her shoulders on her chest X-ray. She was devastated. A specialist at Emory operated on her in February to treat her first shoulder and plans are in motion to treat the other shoulder but within the last two months, Caitlin has been diagnosed with AVN in both knees, left hip, and both elbows. As many of you know she has longed to become a CRNA for years and was set to begin her education at Duke University this August. Due to the recent discovery of Multifocal Avascular necrosis, she has had to put school off until next year as she will require multiple operations. These operations will require a ton of physical therapy and Caitlin will not be able to work for long periods as she is still an ICU nurse and this would be too strenuous on her body. Caitlin’s husband Caleb who has been her rock has been a stay-at-home dad for the last two years as they’ve traveled across the country and the loss of wages and endless medical bills will become a strain. Caitlin needs all of the support she can get and Caleb will need to be home with her to help with mobility for several months. I am starting this page in hopes of obtaining support for this family which is near to my heart and who sacrifices so much for others when in need. If unable to donate please keep The Alligood family in your prayers throughout the coming months as Caitlin has informed me of many of her fears involved with the procedures she will be having but the biggest being unable to physically pick up their toddler and be involved outside with her boys. She’s been here before and she is the strongest woman I know, she can do it again.
