We are reaching out on behalf of Carmine (Teddy) Bonacci and Carys Jenkins to you with an important request that holds the potential to change a young girl's life. Their daughter Brooklyn, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy Spastic Diplegia, needs our support in her journey towards improved mobility and independence. Brooklyn's daily struggle to walk without hesitation is heart breaking. At present, she relies on crawling or a wheelchair for mobility, and even basic tasks like sitting in and getting out of chairs require assistance. Despite her parents doing what they can with the assistance of insurance provided covered, the cost of private care and equipment for home follow-through with her care has made it become a choice rather than a simple need. We are determined to make a difference and give Brooklyn the chance to explore the world around her with newfound freedom. To make Brooklyn's dream a reality, she requires ongoing Physical and Occupational therapy. Unfortunately, the government-provided therapy falls short of meeting her unique needs and the financial burden of private therapy sessions and specialized equipment is significant. This is where your kind contribution can truly make a significant impact. By supporting Brooklyn's private therapy sessions and helping cover the costs of necessary equipment, together we can bridge the gaps and provide her with the comprehensive care she deserves. In addition to therapy, there are surgical options that offer hope for Brooklyn's condition. The Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening (SPML) procedure, though relatively rare, has shown promising results in reducing muscle spasticity and improving her range of motion. However, it requires specialized doctors, most of whom are located in the United States or Greece. The expenses involved in traveling to these locations and undergoing the procedure pose an additional financial challenge for Brooklyn's family. Another surgical option is the Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy, a complex procedure involving the cutting of nerves in Brooklyn's spinal cord. This surgery holds the potential to decrease spasticity in her legs, opening doors to independent steps. However, it also requires intense daily physiotherapy for several months, making it a challenging journey for Brooklyn and her family. The combined costs of the surgery and the subsequent physiotherapy sessions further add to the financial strain they face. Regardless of the surgical path they ultimately choose, their immediate goal is to take Brooklyn to the renowned NAPA center in Boston. This world-class facility offers a three-week intensive physiotherapy program tailored specifically for children with movement disorders. The expertise and individualized care provided at the NAPA center will play a crucial role in Brooklyn's path towards independence. However, the expenses associated with the program, including travel and accommodation, pose a significant financial obstacle for her family. We firmly believe in Brooklyn's potential and are committed to doing whatever it takes to empower her. However, we cannot do it alone. Your support and generosity are instrumental in this life-changing endeavor. By donating to Brooklyn’s cause, you will directly contribute to Brooklyn's specialized therapy sessions, necessary medical equipment, potential surgical procedures, and the overall cost of accessing the NAPA center's program. Your contribution will help alleviate the financial burden on Brooklyn's family, allowing them to focus on providing her with the best possible care and opportunities for a brighter future. Join us in making a tangible difference in Brooklyn's life. Your kindness will not only help her walk independently but also extend a lifeline to other children with Cerebral Palsy who are in desperate need of treatment as a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a charitable foundation supporting kids with Cerebral Palsy. Together, we can create a lasting impact on the lives of these incredible children and alleviate the financial strain faced by their families. https://napacenter.org/ Update: May 2024 Brooklyn had her first surgery on May 23rd. The surgery involved releasing a total of 9 muscles in her legs. She will be in ankle casts and knee braces (Zimmers) for three weeks. Brooklyn and family will also be at Holland Bloorview doing inpatient rehab for 6-8 weeks. So far Brooklyn is in good spirits but the road to recovery is long. First and foremost, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your amazing donations. You've already made a huge difference in Brooklyn's journey, and we're thrilled with the progress we've made together. So, let's keep the momentum going! We're not done yet, but with your continued support, we're confident we can achieve our updated goal. We can't thank you enough for your kindness and dedication. Your support is invaluable, and together, we're making a real impact in Brooklyn's life. Stay tuned for more updates on Brooklyn's progress and the milestones we hit together. Your ongoing commitment means the world to us. With genuine appreciation, Tyanna and the Brooklyn Support Team
