After a devastating accident in April 2024, Brooke was left with a life changing prognosis, Tetraplegia, paralysis of the four limbs. Brooke battles every day to regain some independence and normality as a 17-year-old. With the help of previous fundraisers Brooke has been working hard at physio sessions in our nearest Neuro Physio centre in Letterkenny. Being confined to a wheelchair means Brooke has to use very specialised, adapted equipment, one being the exoskeleton, which allows her to walk. The mental and physical benefits of this are endless. As a family friend, I was shocked and saddened to learn the extortionate costs involved, therefore I am hoping the community will get on board with efforts to raise enough funds for Brooke to purchase the specialised equipment needed to enhance her rehab. A device like the exoskeleton would allow Brooke the benefits of walking more often. However, with the advancements of technology and the ever changing journey Brooke is on its impossible to exactly determine the walking device needed. I appreciate this may take a considerable amount of time and numerous fundraisers. We plan to kick start the fundraising efforts with myself running the Belfast half marathon on 17th September! I also plan to do a few more fundraisers before the marrying so keep and eye out for those! Please follow Brookes journey on Facebook by liking her page, Brooke’s Story.
