We have opened this fundraiser on behalf of our two year-old nephew, Brody, and his family. On 15th July 2024, two weeks before Brody and his twin brother’s second birthday, Brody was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Of course, this has come as a heartbreaking shock to the whole family, but no one has experienced the impact more than Brody and his incredible parents, his identical twin brother and his four month old baby brother. Fortunately, light is shining over Brody in that his chances of survival are approximately 95%. Through his own strength and support of his family we have no doubt he will eventually heal. However, the journey Brody has already embarked on is long and he has already had to endure operations, the installation of a Hickman line, regular chemotherapy, steroid treatments, bone marrow samples, lumbar punctures, a worrying procedure to re-install his Hickman line, caused by him pulling it out (likely due to discomfort which he is not yet developed enough to understand), infections and more. The treatment he faces is significant and is agonising for even a grown adult to face, let alone a toddler. Brody is likely to have to endure a journey of treatment for approximately three years before the prospect of remission is near. As a result of this Brody’s parents are having to spend every waking and sleeping hour devoted to his care, with hospital appointments taking place almost daily (both locally and long distance). They do so whilst juggling the care of Brody’s twin and their four month old, who additionally have their own individual needs to be met and maintained. Brody’s mother is self-employed, meaning she is unable to work for the foreseeable in order to pay the bills and Brody’s father’s compassionate leave from work is due to come to an end imminently. Unfortunately, Brody’s parents did not have life insurance cover for the boys and therefore they are unable to claim any financial support. Whilst we are in absolute awe of their resilience, determination, consistent love, care and commendable strength, we share their concerns in terms of how they are going to be able to maintain their finances in the near future; in order to keep a roof over their heads, put food on their plates and cover travel costs to and from the hospitals. We are reaching out to anyone kind enough to donate (however small or large) to support them. As a family, they are working immensely hard against all odds to maintain a loving household, despite the distress they so acutely feel. The last thing they need on top of this is financial worry, when their energy is so desperately needed elsewhere. No one deserves this cruel illness, not least little Brody, who spent his second birthday in hospital. After so recently being full of life and wonder, he now faces incomprehensible pain and discomfort which he simply does not deserve. Until such time he is able to return to himself again, we’d like to to help his family, to make it easier to support him. Any generosity is gratefully received to support Brody, his parents and his brothers. Thank you.
