Excitement, gratitude, empty, full, loving, and wonderment are only some of the emotions I am barely able to articulate...blessings abundant to each and every one of you for honoring me so... Welcome to our heartfelt campaign dedicated to our dear friend, Sandra, an inspirational Jamaican woman who embraces her roles as a shaman, healer, and artist with radiant energy. Now aged 72, Sandra's life journey has seen her add her vibrant colors to the tapestries of New York, London, California, Amsterdam, and now, South Florida. We first met her a decade ago along the shores of this sunny state, where an immediate heart-to-heart connection sparked a friendship that brings us to this moment. As most of us understand, life in the US can be quite demanding, particularly for the marginalized communities: the spirited artists, the persons of color, and those who have journeyed here from foreign shores. The healthcare system, with its complexities, often compounds these challenges. Sandra herself came face-to-face with this reality when she needed serious dental work a few years ago. With the only option presented by her insurance plan being a full upper teeth extraction and replacement with dentures, she found herself trapped between the rock of infection and the hard place of a seemingly absurd solution. She chose the lesser of two evils. However, this decision, far from being a remedy, proved traumatic and ineffectual. The ill-crafted dentures provided under her insurance led to a cascade of health issues, including severe weight loss due to eating difficulties. Seeking out further solutions, Sandra's doctor recommended another dentist who suggested implants, an effective but costly alternative at $22,000, a sum not covered by her insurance. Undeterred, Sandra reached out to a highly recommended dental team back home in Jamaica, who proposed the same definitive solution at a much more affordable cost. This led us to establish this campaign: to bring Sandra's joyous smile back to the world. Throughout this ordeal, Sandra has remained a beacon of resilience and hope, her wisdom and inner light shining bright. Even now, she smiles with her eyes, her strong but vulnerable spirit kept safe behind a protective mask, her secret carried with genuinely inspiring grace.
