As many of you are aware my sister-in-law, Brianna Hoffmeister, suffers from two autoimmune diseases with several complications. She was diagnosed at 11 years old with the first disease. After several years of declining health the second disease, Addison's, was diagnosed in 2018. She has tried three different types of medication (even switching to 5 shots a day) to prevent her body from going into an “Adrenal Crisis” - A medical emergency causing the entire body to shut down (including the heart and nervous system). This adrenal dysfunction can lead to death in as little as a day. Recently, she has been able to use an insulin-style pump that delivers continuous infusions of the medication throughout the day. This is the first treatment that has given her the ability to slowly start claiming, at least a little, of her life back. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she is leaving her childhood home in Trinidad and transitioning to the States. With the difficult move, many unknowns, and the complications of her obtaining health insurance, we are raising money to cover her basic medical costs for the next 12 months of cortisol treatments, pump supplies, and required doctoral care.
