On June 26th, 2024 Brett went into the emergency room for what he thought was a routine bout of kidney stones. The ER doctor performed a CT scan. She soon came back to the room with tears in her eyes to inform Brett that there was a large mass in his colon and another on his liver. She was sure that it was cancer. Over the last couple of weeks Brett has endured a colonoscopy, a liver biopsy, a PET Scan and many other appointments. He was informed by the colon specialist that he has stage 4 colon cancer and it is deemed uncurable. He is estimated to have 3-6 months to live without any treatment and 2-3 years with treatment. Brett had his appointment with the oncologist today and will have surgery to place a port for chemotherapy next week. He will receive his first treatment on July 24th, 2024. Brett has worked for BNSF Railway for 17 years. This opportunity has allowed Gina to be a stay at home mom for 13 years as their youngest son has special needs. Brett has worked tirelessly to be their primary provider of income. This has also allowed Gina to be with her two grandsons almost every day since they were born. Brett and Gina have 5 children together and will be celebrating 35 years of marriage on July 17, 2024. If you know Brett and Gina then you surely have been touched by their generosity in one form or another. Brett and Gina have always opened their home for people to stay without question. They are the type that will take you in, feed you and make you feel like family. Brett has repaired countless vehicles for family members and friends and will always help if he can. Gina never hesitates to help someone in need of a last minute place to bring a child. Together, Brett and Gina are the true definition of selflessness and giving. Any donations are most appreciated to help them pay for medical expenses, groceries and bills while Brett is undergoing chemotherapy and unable to work.
